The inside of a transmission can be mystery and we’d like to continue our education on the parts of a transmission in the next few posts. By giving you some basic knowledge and facts about the parts of a transmission and how they work, we hope that you’ll be more aware of potential problems and bring your vehicle in for a free inspection at Advanced Transmission before major problems arise. A manual transmission is also known as a standard transmission, manual gear box or stick shift. Manual transmissions features a driver-operated clutch and a movable gear stick, which typically have four to six forward gears and one reverse gear. Without the clutch in a manual transmission, changing gears would be very difficult, deselecting a gear while the transmission is under load requires considerable force, and selecting a gear requires the revolution speed of the engine to be held at a very precise value which depends on the vehicle speed and desired gear. In a car the clutch is usually operated by a pedal. If you are feeling too much play in your clutch to change gears, or the changing of your gears is not as smooth as it should be, contact one of our experienced technicians to provide you with a free inspection to determine if you need further service.
